Braeburn

Eating, Cooking, Baking

Sweet, Sharp

The Braeburn apple was discovered as a chance seedling in 1952 by a farmer in New Zealand.  This cultivar produces a firm, sweet/tart apple that tends to grow a medium to large sized fruit, with red/orange vertical streaks on top of a yellow background.  High disease resistance.  Stores well, however must be careful to avoid Braeburn browning disorder, whereby this particular apple will brown on the inside without showing clear signs of spoilage on its skin.
